Namaste SOS

Namaste. A common greeting in Nepal made by putting both hands together at your heart and meaning; my soul greets your soul. I adopted my boy, Pukar, on October 1, 2010. We were stranded in Nepal until the US (USCIS, DOS) granted him a visa. On 1-11-11, with our Visa in hand, we finally flew home to the USA. Thank you to everyone who lent us a helping hand on this phenomenal, and difficult journey. NOW IT'S TIME TO TURN MY ATTENTION BACK TO THOSE WHO WERE LEFT BEHIND.

SENT TO NEW DELHI

Today I was notified that my file was not approved at the US Embassy in Kathmandu. They stated that they were not able to 'corroborate' the 'documents supporting eligibility' (of my child). That means my file will be sent to USCIS in New Delhi for further review. I must now hire a lawyer.

About Nepal's Orphans and This Blog-Site

The continuation of this blog is to bring awareness and aid to the children and women of Nepal. I also want my child to be active in his culture as a way to understand where he came from, as well as be involved in helping his own country and people.

The status of women is low in the Nepali society, contributing to frequent abuse and abandonment of wives and children. More complicated reasons for abandonment of children include being unwed, the caste system, poverty, the lack of a social system, unequal access to education, and religion. There are no social services and the per capita income of the average household is less than $350 a year.

With adoptions halted, and orphanages either closed or full to capacity, there is nowhere for these abandoned children to go. Some live on the street, many others die.

I have never personally been to a country where the need is so great. With a total population of 28 million people, Nepal is home to approximately one million orphans.
